Chance The Rapper Apologises Over ‘Poorly Timed’ Kanye West’s Tweets Supporting Donald Trump

Chance The Rapper has found himself in hot water when he appeared to support Kanye West’s tweets about Donald Trump. This week West revealed to his followers how he ‘loves’ the president and sees him as his ‘brother’ when he shared a snap of himself wearing a Make America Great Again hat.

Fellow rapper Chance looked as though he was sticking up for the star when he tweeted back to Kanye: ‘Black people don’t have to be democrats… Next President gon be independent.’ However, the West protege has since apologised, calling his statements a ‘deflection from the real conversation’ when he was taken back by a thank you from Trump himself. In his statement the 25-year-old wrote: ‘No matter how much I may disagree with him, it’s hard for me to watch people talk about someone I love – even if they were justified in doing so. ‘I didn’t speak up because I agree with what Kanye had to say or cause I fuck with Trump, I did it because I wanted to help my friend and cause I felt like I was being used to attack him.’ He continued: ‘Unfortunately, my attempt to support Kanye is being used to discredit my brothers and sisters in the movement and I can’t sit by and let that happen either. ‘I’d never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred, racism and discrimination. I’d never support someone who’d talk about Chicago.’ Before adding: ‘Let my apology be seen in my future works, and let me make up for my poorly timed comments with immediate action and advocacy for those who need it most.’Photo Credit: Getty
