The release of sex tapes by Nigerian celebrities has certainly become a trend following a rise in the rate at which celebrity sex tapes are being released.
As of last year, it was the sex tape of Afro-beats queen Tiwa Savage that was leaked online by someone whom she revealed prior to the release of the tape that she was being blackmailed. The mother of one stated that she will not pay a dime because once she starts to pay, the demand will never stop.

Even with this knowledge when the blackmailer leaked the video online, many still dragged the singer. Pointing out how she is a mother and that she is a role model to many young girls out there, so how can she do such a thing. Social media was definitely not kind to her but a few celebrities stood by her irrespective. Now another sex tape has surfaced this new year and this time it’s that of rising star, Oxlade. But this is not blackmail at all because it was his friend that even released the tape via Snapchat. Oxlade’s sex tape was leaked on the 9th of February drawing a wide range of discussions on various social media platforms with the video trending much well on Twitter. He even gained titles like Oxlaid, Horselaid, etc. Now people on social media have been hailing the singer for his sexual prowess and skill, unlike Tiwa who was dragged.

In fact, many have come out to say that Oxlade is just a wild 24-year-old boy, while Tiwa is a 42-year-old mother. This just goes to show how society treats females against their male counterparts. This same hypocritical sect who crucified the mother of one is the same ones giving excuses for the young champ. Although some people, however, were of the opinion that Oxlade intentionally released the sex video in order to become more popular with wider followers and attention, also many Nigerians were of the belief that it is a systematic and new method been developed by Nigerian celebrities to gather more audience as a marketing strategy when they notice their career is at low, and want attention from the masses.
They tend to do something funny and silly for attention’s sake, in order to remain relevant in the industry and if care isn’t taken it may become a frequent habit in the leakages of sex tapes from celebrities in the future. If this is a strategy, it is actually working because Oxlade’s YouTube views have increased tremendously and his songs on all streaming platforms has also been doing super well.
But is this strategy actually worth being called a strategy because the message being passed across to the youth in society is definitely not a healthy one. Something needs to be done because a society that talks down on women and a hypocritical society seems to be two sides of a coin.
