Carl Ikeme has made his first public appearance since announcing he was in remission.
The 32-year-old ailing Nigeria and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper was present at Solihull Hospital in England, to unveil their Cancer Care Unit alongside Black Sabbath rock legend, Tony Iommi, on Tuesday. UK podcast host, Nathan Judah tweeted: “…this is the best picture you’ll see today as a smiling @Carl_Ikeme makes his first public appearance since announcing he was in remission as he helped open the brand new Haematology & Oncology Day unit at Solihull Hospital #wwfc #teamkemes”
Ikeme played major roles in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers, but the Wolves shot-stopper was unable to perform at the tournament in Russia, because of his leukaemia cancer treatment. Ikeme who was diagnosed with leukaemia just over a year ago, recently revealed he is in remission – which means there’s a decrease or disappearance of signs and symptoms of cancer.
