Cardi B is being sued by her former manager – Klenord “Shaft” Raphael for $10M over contract breach.
Cardi and Shaft started working together in 2015, and he’s also listed as a writer and producer on her hit debut single, “Bodak Yellow.” Shaft is accusing Cardi B, who signed with a Quality Control management in March of “breach of contract, unjust enrichment and defamation”. The new management also looks after the likes of Migos.
“Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image,” a statement from Shaft’s KSR management company read. “While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint. Shaft is confident that his lawsuit will validate his conduct and substantiate his legal claims.”
According to TMZ, their sources said Cardi first confronted her manager, Shaft, on Super Bowl weekend, claiming he essentially cooked the books to make it appear Cardi was pulling in less money that she was actually making. “If Cardi got a gig that paid $100,000, Shaft would tell her she was making $50k and allegedly pocket the balance,” the sources revealed.
“Cardi’s fiance, Offset, went ballistic when he learned she was paying Shaft a 20% manager’s fee, way more than he says is the norm. Offset pushed her hard to give Shaft the boot, which she did.”
Cardi B who released her debut album Invasion of Privacy in April 2018, recently told fans her set at Broccoli City Festival in Washington DC this weekend will be her “last performance for a little while.” The US rapper his expecting her first child with Offset from Migos.
