Meet Camilla: The New Queen Consort Without Sovereign Powers

Charles’ wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will be known as Queen Consort — a title that came with Queen Elizabeth II’s blessing after years of contention, dating back to the days before she even married Prince Charles.

Camilla

The 75 years old Camilla was one of King Charles’ earliest friend and was romantically involved with the then prince, even when he was still married to Lady Dianna. Their relationship received widespread media attention and was one of the reasons why Dianna divorced Prince Charles.

After the controversial death of Lady Dianna in 1997, Camilla became the most hated person in Britain, with a section of the British press tagging her the ‘home wrecker.’

Prince Charles finally got married to Camila in 2005 amidst mixed feelings, both within the Royal family and in the eyes of the public. Prince Charles’ children, Prince Harry and Prince Williams were also disappointed that their father finally married the one person that their late mother despises.
