President Buhari Receives Update On Doctors Strike

Following the nationwide strike by National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari has received an update regarding this issue.

Eid-el-Fitri BuhariIn a report made known to newsmen, the presidency (headed by Buhari) on Friday got an update in a report filed by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige and the Minister of State Labour and Employment.

President of NARD, Dr Aliyu Sokomba made the strike known to newsmen earlier in the week, asking all the Union’s member to dissociate from treating any patient in the various COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres across the country.Lagos doctorsMinister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige however said the federal government has fulfilled all the requests tendered by the doctors and encouraged State Governments to follow suit as the nation is in dire need of the health workers.

The requests by the doctors include the delayed and non-payment of special allowances, the lack of protective equipment for doctors in the fight against COVID-19 which has resulted in the loss of life of many doctors, the implementation of the Medical Residency Training Act in all Federal and State hospitals and other essential requests.DoctorsPhoto Credit: Twitter
