President Buhari has approved the conversion of all NYSC orientation camps and four national stadia in the country into isolation centres for Coronavirus cases.
This was made known by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare via his Twitter handle. The stadia to be converted at the National Stadium Surulere, Ibadan, Abuja and Kaduna.
Sunday Dare, while announcing this then called on the youths of Nigeria to ensure appropriate and timely dissemination of information and report of the situation of things across their societies on social media.
“Mr. President has approved for the Ministry of Youth and Sports to open and make available the stadiums in Surulere Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja and Kaduna as well as our NYSC camps nationwide for use as isolation centres as they are needed. We are in touch with relevant authorities. We are in this together. And together we shall overcome. I call on the Youth of Nigeria to be at the vanguard of dissemination of timely and accurate information via social media to Nigerians in their communities. Making available necessary resources and infrastructure in this race against time. Our hope and prayers are that this pandemic will be stopped sooner rather than later. The identification and fumigation of multiple buildings such as the multipurpose sports hall, Gyms etc located in the stadium will commence shortly. The stadiums are huge complexes with many outdoor and indoor areas. Medical personnel and authorities will determine the appropriate areas of usage if and when necessary” he tweeted.
