Brexit: Spain PM Warns Theresa May Ahead Of EU diplomats Summit

Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in a late-night tweet warned British Prime Minister Theresa May on the issue of the Gibraltar territory. Sanchez tweeted: “After my conversation with Theresa May, our positions remain far away.”

After meeting with Sanchez on Wednesday night, the British PM had been positive that the next meet with her Spain counterpart will yield good results. She said, “I’m confident that we’ll be able to agree on a deal that delivers for the whole UK family, including Gibraltar”. However, it seems things didn’t go as planned as Sanchez further threatened “My government will always defend the interests of Spain. If there are no changes, we will veto Brexit.” Sanchez’s warning comes ahead of a meeting of EU diplomats on Friday to finalise the draft divorce agreement between the UK and the bloc. However, Spain’s ability to “veto Brexit” or the 585-page withdrawal agreement is minimal. And any refusal to co-operate would undoubtedly sour the atmosphere at this weekend’s EU summit.Photo Credit: Getty
