Contrary to the believe that Onnoghen was suspended because of his long overdue asset declaration, new information that negates the stance has been disclosed. According to punch, Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended because of the panel of judges he was to select who would make decisions on the forthcoming elections. It was revealed that his suspension was to avert the inauguration of the panel or remove some of the judges Onnoghen was to inaugurate from the list. 
This new information was disclosed today, January 26 in Abuja. Punch also added that the suspended Justice was supposed to set up the 250 members of the panel today. According to Punch’s source, it was revealed that: “There are a total of 250 members who would sit on the election panels. The panels comprise National Assembly Election Petition Tribunals, Governorship Election Petition Tribunals, and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals. “His sudden removal was aimed at either stopping the event or removing some judges on the lists. That is what will happen.”
