Qatar 2022: Brazil Edge Switzerland 1-0, Qualifies For Knockout Stage

Casemiro’s late winner over Switzerland confirmed Brazil’s place in the last-16 of the Qatar World Cup.

After surviving a 64th-minute disallowed goal for Vinicius Jr due to offside, Switzerland looked on track to earn another World Cup draw against the Brazilians, four years on from their 1-1 stalemate in Russia.

But Casemiro blasted home a deflected winner seven minutes from time to make it two wins from two for five-time champions Brazil, who were playing without the injured Neymar. Switzerland remain on three points and sit second in Group G.

Brazil are tough to beat and work very hard in the centre. Their attacking players obviously have tons of quality and they started to show it once they clicked.

Switzerland defended pretty well but had limited to no ambition and were clearly hoping for a 0-0. Tite’s subs changed the dynamic. Don’t forget that Brazil had a goal chalked off for offside in the build up prior to Casemiro scoring what would be the game’s only goal. Brazil could easily have had a second after that.

All things considered, not a match to remember but Brazil have won two out of two and join France in the next round. The Swiss are fancied to join them by getting something vs Serbia.
