Borno State Governor Vows To Prosecute All Parents Involved In Child Marriage

The Borno State Governor, Mr Kashim Shettima, has vowed that his government will not hesitate to prosecute any parent involved in child marriage.
The state governor announced that underage marriage of female children has now become a punishable crime in Borno.
Governor Shettima gave the warning while addressing parents whose children are beneficiaries of the Borno state free basic education.

He said: “Allow them to finish secondary school; irrespective of all the assistance and hospitality we offer you, whoever marries out his 12-year-old daughter would be prosecuted. We as parents must help them acquire western and religious education.”
The Northern region of Nigeria has been at the center of girl child marriage in the country, despite the dawn of civilization in the country.
