President Muhammadu Buhari and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have sent out their tributes as they mourn the death of Nigerian billionaire Chief Bode Akindele.
Recall that the illustrious Ibadan seed and the Parakoyi of Ibadanland passed away yesterday afternoonat the age of 88. He was said to have called his family members for Lunch on Sunday 28th June before passing away the next day.
Mourning him in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina, President Buhari described his death as an irreparable loss to the nation, adding that the late Bode Akindele was one of the private individuals that first supported the government financially in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. “Chief Akindele was a man of many parts. He was a creator of jobs who demonstrated untiring love for the downtrodden. His philanthropic gestures knew no bounds, intervening especially in critical sectors of the economy“, part of the statement reads.
Seyi Makinde on the other hand, took to the streets of Twitter to recall how his late father had always prayed that he grew to become like the deceased. He added that he will be missed sorely for his kind-heartedness and good deeds. “I was saddened to hear that Chief Bode Akindele, the Parakoyi of Ibadanland has passed on. “My thoughts & prayers are with his family & loved ones. My late father used to pray that I grow up to be like Chief Akindele. I was privileged to meet him recently, and we discussed using his medical facility, ARAMED, as an isolation centre for Oyo State. He was also the single largest donor to our state’s COVID-19 Endowment Fund. He will be sorely missed for his kind-heartedness and good deeds. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss“, he tweeted.
