Baba Ijesha’s Case Is A Criminal Case – Prosecution

Earlier Today the child molestation and defilement case of popular actor and comedian, Omiyinka James aka Baba Ijesha versus popular plus-size comedienne Damilola Adekoya aka Princess resumed today at the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos as the prosecution lead counsel on the case, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi, Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), had stated in court today September 28, that the Baba Ijesha’s case is a criminal case and should be treated as one.

The prosecution counsel also today called to the stand its third witness one Mrs. Anike Ajayi-Kayode the CEO of Cece Yara Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that focuses on helping, intervention, and rescuing children who have been victims of child abuse. Mrs. Ajayi-Kayode during her testimony revealed for the first time that Baba Ijesha raped Princess’ foster daughter twice as a 7-year-old on different occasions and had at one time inserted a car key in the 7-year-old’s vagina.

At the start of proceedings in court earlier today, the defense counsel had first sought an adjournment due to the absence of Lead counsel Mr. Babatunde Ogala (SAN) and Mr Dada Awosika (SAN).

A member of the defense team, Mr. N.A. Egbeyemi said that Ogala, in a letter dated Sept. 27, had asked for an adjournment of proceedings because he was unavoidably absent in court today, but was represented by a junior counsel by the name N.A Egbeyemi.

However, the DPP opposed the request for an adjournment, citing that the court had notified both the prosecution and the defense counsel that the new date for the Baba Ijesha’s was to hold September 28th and that the defense counsel did not oppose this since August 19 when the notifier was sent why is it now just requesting for an adjournment date 2-days before hearing.

Consequently, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo ordered that the trial should proceed with the third prosecution witness (Ajayi-Kayode) giving evidence. The judge adjourned the case to Oct. 20 for cross-examination of the witness.

Actress and comedienne Damilola Adekoya (alias Princess), the foster mother of the minor, Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, and Koffi the comedian were present in court today during Tuesday’s proceedings.
