Last night saw the lights get turned off in Biggie’s house as Season 6 of the Big Brother Naija show; Shine Ya Eyes Edition came to an end with Hazel Oyeze Onou aka the “Mazi” as he is fondly called (Whitemoney) emerging as the winner of the show.
After spending 10-weeks in the house Whitemoney beat his closest rival Liquorose to the grand prize of N90m by quite a margin attracting 17% more of the final week’s vote as Liquorose and the military general Pere coming 2nd and 3rd with 27.99% and 14.77% respectively. But in truth Whitemoney emerging as the winner of the show didn’t actually come as a surprise, most especially for anyone who has followed this year’s show right from the start. It was obvious even to the blind he was bound to win and Liquorose had no chance on earth to challenge him for the prize.

With Whitemoney applying certain tricks which have now become a foolproof tested and trusted methods used by previous winners, Whitemoney also applied these same tricks as they seem to have worked perfectly once again.
So the question of interest is what are the tricks and techniques. Well for some others they would rather define it as the reasons why he won but in the truth, these are the tricks he used to con the public’s consciousness into doing his bid and voting for him to win;
- He played the poverty sympathy card:
Hazel of course had noticed over the last 4 seasons that playing the sympathy card, manipulating the public’s feeling that he had come from nothing and yet another to the story of grass to grace, not based abroad nor as he ever traveled before the show were all well sold. This sequence started with Efe from season 2, who just like Whitemoney claimed to be a singer and was going to use the platform to push his career forward, next to Miracle well he need the money for his aviation school course, then to Mercy Eke the poor Igbo0-girl with bad English, but of course, is a hustler and finally Laycon the Unilag boy, rapper, sickle-cell patient all public sympathy game.
- He Was Strategic:
Perhaps, this is the moment Nigerians and lovers of BBNaija reality TV show should give It to Pere after he pointed to the fact that WhiteMmoney was in the kitchen as a strategy to win. It was as a result of Pere’s act to put an end to this that dented his chance of winning as many felt he was threatened by Whitemoney.
The saying “the way to a man’s heart is through his belly” applies here as Whitemoney was able to win the hearts of the Housemates to himself with his cooking abilities.

- He Avoided Any Type of Ship:
Whitemoney smartly avoided any and all types of “ships” in the first 5-weeks in the house. Hazel smartly did not build his game in the house around any ship staying neutral of the ladies but yet stayed close to all of the ladies in the house, working his way into their hearts. The only lady that seemed to catch on to his game was Maria, but then she was at some point public enemy number 1.
It was only quite later on in the show he had what could be termed as a close friendship with Queen.
- Willingness To Want To Give Back:
Whitemoney regularly spoke about where he is from, and how much he wanted to give back as the community he is from is very backward and poor. Well of course the street will definitely fight and support one their own or one that claims he represents them. READ ALSO: 10 Most Successful Big Brother Naija Contestants Till Date
- Relating With The Middle/Lowerclass Nigerians:
Well, this right here was Whitemoney’s biggest sell as he constantly talked about his life struggle, from living under Ojuelegba’s bridge for 2-years to being a barber to being an Okada rider just to survive, he sold of these stories well while on the show.
His story on life struggles was something numerous Nigerians could relate to, and well as ever as stated by Davido Nigerians love the ‘grass to grace stories.
