Bauchi Loses N1.062bn To Ghost Workers In 4 Years

Bauchi State Government has said that it lost a whooping sum of 1.062bn naira paying ghost workers and pensioners between June 2016 and January 2020.
The state Commissioner of Finance, Umar Sanda revealed this while addressing the Press on the outcome of the Bauchi State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
Sanda noted that a memorandum which the committee presented on its findings about ghost workers in the space of the 4 years revealed that there are 259 ghost workers in the State administration.Bauchi state governor
According to him, in the State payroll, there were a total of 193 ghost workers to whom N270m was lost, and on the local government payrolls, 66 persons had collected over N792m.

“The total amount of fraud for both the state and local government payrolls is N1.062bn. We’ve been arresting the culprits, but the problem is that they always change their names. We’ve not taken any definite decision on where to take the culprits because it is an ongoing process”, he said.BauchiPhotos Credit: Getty
