South African gqom artist, Babes Wodumo, has dropped charges against her producer and DJ boyfriend, Mampintsha, according to reports.
This is coming a few months after Mampintsha was caught on camera during Babes’ live video session, slapping her many times. (See video here Unbelievable! DJ Mampintsha Assaults His Girlfriend On Instagram Live). The video went viral and got fans asking Babes to sue her assaulter. Subsequently, Babes laid an assault charge which she has now dropped four months after they both successfully attended all mediation sessions with Families South Africa.
Mampintsha and Babes then issued a joint statement on social media over the weekend, in which they confirmed the news and apologised to the nation. “The two parties mentioned above wish to extend their apologies to the nation for all that has happened, they’re aware that the incident has divided the country and wish to humbly apologise for the pain and negative energy that may have arisen as a result of this case,” reads part of the statement.
The statement further added that Mampintsha regrets his actions and will work on himself. “Mampintsha remains remorseful and is committed to working with authorities and any institution that deals with abuse through his ‘Fix It Fix Him’ organisation that deals with teaching young men about abuse and helping them assess themselves“, it added.
