Aubameyang: Arsenal Can Challenge For Premier League Title This Season

Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes Arsenal can challenge for the Premier League title this season, but admitted the club’s main goal is to qualify for the Champions League.

Arsenal’s fifth-place finish last term was not enough to secure a spot in the Champions League and the Gunners then saw their alternate route into the competition blocked by Chelsea, who beat them in the Europa League final.

After being the matchwinner for two games in a row for Arsenal, Aubameyang backed the Gunners to spring a surprise this season.

He said: ‘I think as I said earlier we have made good signings, that will help us. Last season, we were not far away from qualifying for the Champions’ League. Whatever happens, that is the most important thing, the most important aim for us. To be back in the Champions’ League. Aside from that, to fight for the title, we know very well that the big guns are ready but we are also ready and in any case we are going to give our all to match the big guns if possible.’

Arsenal made it two wins from two games with a 2-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday, with Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette on the scoresheet for the Gunners.

While Aubameyang talked up his team’s title chances, his team-mate Lacazette promised Arsenal fans his best was yet to come.

‘The Premier League has seen a very good Lacazette, but not yet the best Lacazette,’ he said. ‘I need to score more goals I know, I need to be more consistent and consistent throughout matches. I can do better… I am continuing to work, the national team coach makes his decisions. I am trying to put in the work. There you have it. I am still (motivated for it).’Photo Credit: Getty
