Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been ordered to commence an indefinite industrial action. The order was given by the body’s leadership after an extensive meeting held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, the Ondo State capital on Sunday, November 4th.
National President of ASUU, Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, while speaking with newsmen said that the union took the decision due to the poor funding of Universities in the country. Ogunyemi noted that Universities at the moment are underfunded and successive governments have continued to ignore several appeals made for an increase. He then directed members of the union across various universities to withdraw their services, adding that the strike this time will be total and indefinite. This is coming just one day before the NLC Nov. 6 proposed strike over the non-implementation of N30,000 minimum wage. Photo Credit: Getty
