The Lagos State Government has arraigned Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Drambi Vandi, for the alleged killing of a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day.
The State preferred a one-count charge of murder contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 against the defendant.
Vandi pleaded not guilty.The arraignment, which was scheduled for 9am, suffered some delay until about 11am when Vandi’s counsel, Mr Adetokunbo Odutola arrived.
Furthermore, the Nigerian Bar Association is not letting the matter slide. The group is demanding compensation for the family of the victim, while also putting up a strong case against the defendant.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 29, it was also disclosed that NBA Lagos Branch member and rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) will be leading a team that will be monitoring the trial of the police officer that killed Bolanle Raheem. The statement read; “The NBA Lagos in conjunction with the NBA President, Mr. Y.C. Mikyau, SAN, has decided to be part of the prosecution of the policeman as part of its efforts towards securing quick and effective justice for the family of the deceased. “In this regard, the NBA will be partnering with the Ministry of Justice during the trial.
