Arsenal ‘Set To Bid £26m’ For Mainz’s Ivory Coast international Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Premier League club Arsenal are reportedly weighing up an offer to sign Mainz’s Ivory Coast international star Jean-Philippe Gbamin. Gbamin has made 46 appearances for Mainz since arriving from Lens in 2016 but the 22-year-old centre-back is being linked with a move to England ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.Unai Emery is desperate to bring defensive reinforcements to the Emirates this summer and Gbamin has emerged as a possible target for the Gunners. Media reports suggests Arsenal and other clubs are plotting a bid for Gbamin, with Mainz demanding a fee of around €30million (£26m) for the central defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder.Arsenal have been linked with a number of defenders this summer and have already landed right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer. Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also expected to complete a move to north London in the coming weeks.
