Mikel Arteta is gradually clearing out the old legs and clogs in the wheels of the Arsenal side he dreams of building, as yet another remnant of the Great Arsene Wenger dynasty leaves the club in the person of German defender Shkodran Mustafi to join Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04. Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi joins his former German international teammate Mesut Ozil on the bus out of the North London club side. Though they won’t both be playing for the same new side, he has another former Arsenal team in Saed Kolasinac who is also leaving with him who they would both be playing at the Bundesliga side together for at least until the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta slowly but steadily is clearing out all of the players who could be issues for him if they continued to be at the Emirates as he builds the side in the image he wants the team to look like.

Shkodran Mustafi, 28, joins the Bundesliga strugglers on a six-month deal to replace Ozan Kabak, who has completed a deadline-day loan move to Liverpool.
