The PDP youth supporters were at the airport to welcome Senator Urhoghide
Youth and supporters of ruling party, All Progressive Congress and opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party were involved in a clash at the Benin Airport over the motion moved by Senator Matthew Urhoghide seeking the invocation of Section 143 of the Nigeria’s Constitution. The PDP youth supporters were at the airport to welcome Senator Urhoghide for moving the motion for the senate to start the impeachment proceedings against President Buhari but the APC supporters were displeased. APC supporters had their protest earlier through the streets of Benin, disowning Senator Urhogide. They proceeded to the airport to show their displeasure in the Senator but it turned out to be a clash between the youth supporters of the both political parties.
Both parties sang anti-PDP and anti- Buhari songs. It took the intervention of the State Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo to ensure no blood was shed and peace was sustained at the airport. The Police Commissioner had to personally stand between the protesters to prevent strife and physical combat between both parties.
