Anthony Joshua Says He Won’t Celebrate If He Beats Andy Ruiz Jr For This Simple Reason

Anthony Joshua claims he won’t celebrate if he regains his world heavyweight titles from Andy Ruiz.

Joshua faces Ruiz in their rematch in the Clash of the Dunes in Diriyah on Saturday and says it will not be a special moment if he wins. He says he will remain calm and move on to the next target on his list.

“People have asked me if it will be a special moment if I win and I say no because I know I belong here,” said the former unified world heavyweight king. “I know what I’m capable of doing. When I regain those belts, I’ll keep cool and stay focused. It’s not a time to celebrate. It’s a time to keep the challenger’s mindset and move on to my next target.

“One by one, I’m picking them off and Ruiz is just the next target on my list.”

Joshua appeared relaxed at Wednesday’s final press conference and insisted he is not daunted because Ruiz stopped him in seven rounds in June at Madison Square Garden to hand him his first pro defeat.

“I came into boxing not to take part, I came to take over,” he said. “I came in fully committed and my focus has always been there. I’ve never had a chance to reflect as I went from the European Championships, World Championships, Olympic title, British title, world titles. I’m experienced and I’m not here to put on a show, I’m here to win. As soon as I got back from New York, I got straight back into it at Finchley ABC, I didn’t lose any heart. There’s fire in my belly, there’s no fear in my heart, eyes or mind. I’m just focused on putting on a show.”Photo Credit: Getty
