Another Promise! Buhari Pledges Dedication Towards Chibok Girls Release

President Muhammadu Buhari has once again assured Nigerians of his administration’s utmost dedication to the release of Chibok girls. In a statement issued by the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Tuesday, December 4, the president vowed that the girls who were kidnapped in 2014 would be released. This he said at on Monday, December 3 in Katowice, Poland during a  during a bilateral meeting with the Swiss President Alain Berset, on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference, COP24. It was disclosed by the President’s aide that he spent the whole day at the gathering delivering his national key speeches at the opening of the 12-day meeting of COP24. Shehu also added that President Buhari also met with various world leaders and visited the impressive Nigerian pavilion at the climate summit. It was also said that the president appreciated the Swiss Confederation for its efforts and important role as intermediaries to ensuring the release of some of the girls. He, however, reassured the Swiss president, Alain Berset that the remaining girls would be released as their abduction is a ‘key priority’ for his government. Afterward, the presidents discussed necessary joint strategies that would ensure the safe return of the girls back to their homes and lives. Buhari was quoted to have said that: “We will continue to make the safe release of the remaining Chibok girls a priority and will welcome any kind of support from any quarters to make this happen, ”.buhariPhoto Credit: Getty
