The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, Oseloka Obaze, has picked Chidi Onyemelukwe as his running mate for the November 18, 2017 Anambra State Governorship Election. Announcing her candidature at the PDP secretariat on Wednesday in Awka, Obaze said Onyemelukwe’s choice is in line with the constitution and Electoral Guidance of the party, as well as INEC Guideline.
He said his choice of a female running mate was informed by his commitment to gender mainstreaming, women empowerment and a 60:40 targeted ratio in political appointments. Obaze explained that he consulted widely for three weeks with members of his family as well as the PDP hierarchy before selecting her from a shortlist.
“As deputy governor, Chidi will be my partner in turning Anambra state around. I look forward to our collaboration and shared responsibilities in delivering good governance and dividends of democracy to our people in Anambra State,” Obaze said.
