American Supreme Court Upholds Donald Trump’s Travel Ban

The United States Supreme Court has upheld Donald Trump’s travel ban stopping people from several Islam-majority countries.
After several lower courts concluded that the ban was unconstitutional, the American supreme court reversed the legal decision in a 5-4 ruling announced on Tuesday. The ban stops thousands of people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the United States.

Despite the fact that the ban was widely criticized by refugee and human rights groups, the Chief Justice of the court, John Roberts said the travel ban was “squarely within the scope of Presidential authority”, while rejecting arguments that the ban was based on the fact that the countries affected were mostly Muslim.
In the court ruling, Chief Justice Roberts wrote: “The Proclamation is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices. The text says nothing about religion.”
