Senate Minority Caucus Oppose Buhari’s Aide, Lauretta Onochie’s Nomination As INEC Commissioner

The Senate Minority Caucus has rejected President Buhari’s nomination of aide, Lauretta Onochie as National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Lauretta OnochieIn a statement released by the lawmakers, it accused the President of defying constitution to nominate a non-neutral person who is a card carrying member of his party.

Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe urged the President to uphold the constitution and withdraw his nomination.

“President Buhari by nominating Lauretta Onochie has willfully gone against the constitution that he swore to uphold.

“Item F, paragraph 14 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) forbids a card carrying member of a political party to be a member of INEC.
