After 30 Long Years…Liverpool Are Premier League Champions After Chelsea Beat Manchester City

Liverpool’s wait to be crowned Premier League champions is over after Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s relentless side powered 23 points clear of their closest rivals following a devastating performance against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane sealed another three points for a Liverpool side who remain on course to smash through the 100 point barrier and break City’s record from two seasons ago.

A 28th victory in 31 matches forced City into a situation whereby they needed to take maximum points from Stamford Bridge in order to delay the inevitable.

Despite dominating possession and territory in the first half, Chelsea trailed at the break when Christian Pulisic seized on a terrible error from Benjamin Mendy, surged past the City full-back and finished expertly.

City rallied after the break and drew level through a stunning Kevin De Bruyne free kick and twice came close to taking the lead through Raheem Sterling.

But it was Chelsea who stole three points when Willian buried a penalty kick with 13 minutes remaining after Fernandinho had used his hand to prevent Tammy Abraham bundling the ball over the goal line.Photo Credit: Getty
