Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as known Adekunle Gold or AG Baby is a Nigerian afropop, afrobeat and highlife singer, songwriter and graphic designer born on the 28th of January, 1987 (34 years old). He became a member of his church’s junior choir during his teenage years, and went on to write his first song at age 15. He had added Gold to his name after a session in church with the inspiration coming from an excerpt of the pastor’s preaching.
He was a member of a boy band called The Bridge and together, they released No Sleeping on a Bicycle, Norm Breaker featuring Skales and All of Me (John Legend’s cover). In 2014, he went solo after disbanding from the music group began music professionally. In 2014 and released his first evergreen hit single Sade, a highlife cover of One Direction’s Story of My Life which pushed him to limelight and got him signed on Olamide’s YBNL label in 2015. Following the signing, he released his first official single Orente under the label, followed by Pick Up. These three singles, all of which did great and resonated with both young and old, were succeeded by his debut studio album Gold, which debuted at number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart. Meanwhile, prior to his signing with YBNL, Adekunle Gold designed the label’s official logo and completed other designs for Lil Kesh, Viktoh and Olamide.

When he left YBNL in 2016 – a year after signing, Adekunle Gold revealed that YBNL moved him. According to him, he had “Sade before YBNL and it was already getting popular. When I got signed to the label, we shot the video and it became like a sensation everywhere”. He left the label in 2016 – 3 days after the release of his album, unveiled his band – The 79th Element and has since been a greatness developing and getting so much better in his craft.
Background
Adekunle Gold old is said to be the only son of his parents and has three female siblings. Kosoko is a royal family of Lagos Island which means that Adekunle Kosoko is a Prince. His father’s brother is Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko, meaning he is the nephew of legendary actor. His royalty, however, did not make automatic ways for him as he had to sing his way to acceptance by Nigerians. Many didn’t even know about his royal status until later. Though his parents were Muslim, he and his siblings were allowed to explore other religions and that was how he found himself in a church choir. Sadly, Adekunle lost his youngest sister, Busayo, to heart complications in 2011. In an interview, he revealed that his late sister was the only one who really understood him. He fondly called her his twin even though they were not. He also lost his father Prince Hakeem Kosoko in 2019 and he was laid to rest on Thursday, May 30 same year.
Education
Adekunle Gold was said to have attended public schools in Lagos and then proceeded to Lagos State Polytechnic where he studied Art and Industrial Design and holds a Higher National Diploma.

In 2015, Adekunle Gold won the Best New Act to watch at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards. In 2016, he won the same category again at the same awards event, alongside the Headies’ Best Song of the Year and Best Alternative Song, the Revelation of Africa at the AFRIMA Awards and the Best Song at the Beat of Lagos Awards. In 2017, he won City People Entertainment Awards Album of the Year and the Collabo of the Year (with Simi) and IARA’S Best African Music Artist.
Personal Life
In January 2019, Adekunle Gold married his heartthrob Simi, a fellow Nigerian singer and songwriter after five years of dating. He had gone to see her perform with his new clothes and eventually hooked up with her via Facebook. He was just starting out his music professionally at the time too. Their relationship remained private, leaving many to guess at several points until their honeymoon in 2019. They welcomed their baby girl, Adejare on the 30th of May, 2020. They have since been showing how affectionate, playful and passionate they are about each other on social media, though still keeping the identity of their daughter a secret.

Adekunle Gold was unveiled as a brand ambassador for Unity bank on the 15th of January, 2018. He has an estimated net worth of $800,000 in 2020. Reportedly, Adekunle Gold stays in a nice and big mansion in Lekki. The multimillion naira mansion is said to have a studio section and a swimming pool space. In 2018, Adekunle Gold acquired a Mercedes Benz GLB Class which has been reported to be his most-preferred among his valuable cars because it is used regularly.
