Abia: Otti denies inviting Gowon for inauguration

Abia State governor-elect, Dr. Alex Otti has debunked the rumours making the rounds that he invited former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his (Otti’s) inauguration.

Otti on Saturday came under attack by the members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who also whipped up sentiment about the role the former Head of State played in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, a son of Abia.
According to some of the PDP members, Otti was being insensitive to the emotions and psychological well-being of Abians by bringing a man who according to them has not apologised to Abians and Ndigbo in particular over the role he (Gowon) played in the killing of Ironsi.
The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had on Friday in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful warned Otti against any attempt to bring General Gowon (rtd) to the state.
Unconfirmed information has it that Apostle Chuks Alozie, Abia State Coordinator Nigeria Prays in a statement on Saturday said that the event had been put on hold indefinitely, citing unforeseen circumstances and challenges facing the group as part of the reasons the event was put on hold.
