Nine people have been killed and 57 wounded in the airstrike in Lviv, close to Ukraine’s border with Poland.

The local governor claims Russia fired 30 rockets at the Yavoriv military centre.

The Ukrainian defence minister has also said that foreign military staff were based at the Yavoriv military centre , not only those from Ukraine.

The centre is used by NATO countries to carry out training exercises, and the attack comes after Russian warnings that NATO supply lines would be targeted.

Reuters says a witness saw more than a dozen ambulances heading in the direction of the site.

At just over 15 miles from the Polish border – and therefore NATO territory – it would appear to be the westernmost attack by Vladimir Putin’s forces since the invasion began.

Just yesterday, Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov warned western arms convoys to Ukraine were a “legitimate military target”.
