According to News Agency of Nigeria, The Rotary Health Community Challenge (RHCC) has initiated efforts to combat three child-killer diseases in Kebbi’s rural communities, focusing on malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia through a pilot programme. This initiative is part of a broader three-year strategy to reduce under-five child mortality in Nigeria.

Dr Dele Balogun, the Country Lead for RHCC, visited Dagimu village in Argungu Local Government Area to monitor and evaluate the Malaria Diarrhoea Mitigation Programme. He emphasized the importance of touring participating LGAs to assess the programme’s impact.

The Malaria Diarrhoea Mitigation Programme is a pilot intervention scheme that has been ongoing in Kebbi and Akwa Ibom. The programme aims to address the three major causes of child mortality in Nigeria, with support from the Rotary Foundation and PATH.

The visit by the RHCC team to Dagimu village included discussions with community members to evaluate the performance of CHIPS agents and gather feedback for programme improvement. The community expressed satisfaction with the services provided and requested the programme’s extension.

Dr Festus Adetonwa, Head of Advocacy Committee, urged the community to identify any lapses in the programme for necessary amendments. The village head expressed satisfaction with the CHIPS agents and called for more agents to continue the successful services.
