Fifty African Athletes Abscond In Australia After Commonwealth Games

Approximately 50 athletes have remained in Australia illegally after participating in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
An Australian government official further disclosed that almost 200 others are currently holding bridging visas and are applying for refugee status.

The Australia government has warned that it will deport all African illegal immigrants when the long arm of the law eventually fish them out.
Malisa Golightly, an official from the Australian department of home affairs, told a legislative committee on Monday that though the department “had no contact” with the missing athletes, but she confirmed that “We know they haven’t left.”

Malisa said that around 190 of the 205 athletes and officials in the country legally are seeking protection visas. The remaining number are applying for business or other visas.
