2018 World Cup: Super Eagles Legend Kanu Robbed Of N4 Million In Russia

Nwankwo Kanu robbed in Russia on Sunday (June 3).

Super Eagles and Arsenal legend, Kanu had US$11,000 (about N4 million) stolen from his suitcase after arriving in Moscow from London ahead of World Cup. The 41-year-old reported the missing money when he arrived into Kaliningrad for a FIFA Legends match on Sunday (June 3). Kaliningrad is also the city that will host Super Eagles World Cup opener against Croatia on June 16.

“Kaliningrad is a very nice city with very nice people,” said Nwankwo Kanu said while speaking to the media in Baltic city. “It’s really good to be here. The stadium is fantastic, I liked the atmosphere inside and also enjoyed being in the players’ dressing room.”

Russian police have confirmed that two loaders aged 30 and 36 at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport have been detained, and the pair face criminal investigation, which could see them sent to jail for up to six years if found guilty. “The stolen cash was removed (from the loaders) and will soon be returned to the owner,” saidLt-Col Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry.
