2018 World Cup: I Will Stop Messi For 180 Million Nigerians – Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa

Nigeria’s favorite goalkeeper for the World Cup has promised to stop Lionel Messi.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa who currently plays for Ifeanyi Ubah F.C. is already with his teammates in Uyo as they prepare for next month’s tournament. The 29-year-old goalkeeper played a vital role in the qualification matches after the country’s firstchoice, Carl Ikeme was ruled out with acute leukaemia in June 2017.

Ezenwa told BBC: ”I know I’m carrying 180 million people on my shoulder and I have to stop him. “And for me to stop him makes me a special one in that game because I think once I stop it, the whole 180 million Nigerians will jubilate for the victory.” Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Ozoho, and Dele Ajiboye are the other goalkeepers selected on coach Gernot Rohr’s 30-man World Cup provisional squad.  Nigeria will face Croatia, Iceland, and Argentina in Group D of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The Nigerian national team will play a friendly match with Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt next Monday, before their trip to London for a game with England at the Wembley Stadium on June 2.
