The Federal Government of Nigeria has today, 21st January, flagged off the a new cash transfer scheme targeting Nigeria’s URBAN poor and vulnerable populations through a technology-based approach known as the Rapid Response Register (RRR).
Through this means, it promises to have 1 million households which fall within the urban poor and vulnerable population impacted in 6 months.
This was revealed by the Presidency at the Federal Executive Council chaired by VP Yemi Osinbajo today. According to the Presidency, the Rapid Response Register RRR uses scientifically validated methods such as satellite remote sensing technology, machine learning and big data analysis to identify and deliver cash to urban households affected by the fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“Over the next six months, a total of 1 million Nigerian households that fall within the urban poor and vulnerable population will be impacted directly by the Rapid Response Register (RRR) launched this week by the Federal Government”, a tweet from the Government of Nigeria reads.
Explaining how the RRR works further, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq said it links to other database of the respondent such as the NIN and banking information.
“This register (RRR) links to other databases such as banking information of respondents and national identity numbers. It is also a process that is advanced in unifying the national databank towards the delivery of social development in Nigeria”, she explained.
