“Nigeria na season film, he no dey finish”, this is a saying I borrow from my dear esteemed lecturer from back in my days in University. He would say Nigeria never stops serving you things to talk about nor is there ever a shortage of shocking events that emanates from the country. 2021 in a jiffy
It seems the events of last year, the COVID-19 ravaged 2020, only seem to have heightened the level or cases dramatic events that took place in 2021.
And in our end of the year wrap on things we’ve decided to go through some of the top events of 2021 that rocked our boats both on the good side and on the negative end.
1. Twitter Ban: Biggest Events In Nigeria in 2021
In a major shocker of events, earlier in the year, June 5 to be precise, the Federal Government of Nigeria banned the social media microblogging platform Twitter from being used in the country. Citing that the platform was been used to ferment trouble in the country, and could end up being a medium of chaos, instability which might lead to another civil war in the country. This ban came after Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet where he address the criticism of Igbo-youths saying they will be dealt with in a language they understand. The ban has yet to be lifted, though Nigerians still gain access to the platform through the use of VPN.
2. Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho’s Arrest
Another major event that left the country in complete tatters or rather say the shock was the scandalous arrest of the two secessionist leaders, Nnamdi Kanu of the IPOB and Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho. This came after years and months of allowing these men to push their secessionist cause. Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in Kenya and dragged back to Nigeria to stand trial. While Sunday Igboho is still in a Benin Republic prison rotting away.
3. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Becoming WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
On the light side or excelling side of things, for the first time, a woman emerged as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. That honour of that first-timer was achieved by Nigerian former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
This was a major point of celebration and pride for any and every Nigerian home and abroad of having yet another Nigerian carry the Nigerian flag around and all over the world.
4. Burna Boy Grammy Win: burna boy
Another major feat achieved in 2021, was the Afrobeat singer Burna Boy winning the first proper indigenous Grammy Award. The Odogwu is another Nigerian that made Nigerians proud with his resounding feat. A major first, and most definitely with way things are going won’t be the last.

5. EndSARS; Judicial Panel Report:
The EndSARs judicial panel report that leaked in the second to the last month of 2021, November caught many by surprise while also vilifying the righteous DJ Switch who only stood for the truth. Nigeria might be a hardened ghetto-like country to live in and survive, but here this country still has many brave souls who will stand for the truth and won’t be cowered for any reason.
The Judicial panel in its report and findings confirm that yes, a massacre took place at Lekki TollGate, and the military was invited by Gov Sanwo-Olu. It also confirmed the gaslighting that was put to the face of Nigerians over the last 12-months by the FG of President Muhammadu Buhari.

6. King of Boys Netflix Series:
Another major feat of celebration and one of the biggest events of 2021, was the release of Nigeria’s very first Netflix series original the King Of Boys; Return of the King, produced by Kemi Adetiba, starring Sola Sobowale. This movie shook grounds and created a major shock wave that will resonate through the fabric of time.
7. Baba Ijesha’s Child Defilement Case:
The child defilement and rape case of the popular veteran Nollywood actor James Olanrewaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha came as a major shock, type of which the Nigerian entertainment industry has never seen before. Baba Ijesha was accused of rape and defilement of a minor by his colleague and his ex-lover Princess. The case is still in court and we wait to hear the court’s final decision on the matter.
8. Abba Kyari Link With Hushpuppi:
Nigerian supercop and highly respected former Police detective, Abba Kyari was also this year fingered by the American FBI, of being in bed with the Internationally renowned fraudster Hushpuppi.
In research revealed it was said that Hushpuppi uses Abba Kyari’s connection to threaten and arrest his enemies. It was also revealed that Abba Kyari received money from Hushpuppi as a reward for carrying out some duties on his behave.
9. Miriam Olusanya GTB: 
Miriam Olusanya is the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, the first woman to ever hold the position. She assumed this position in July 2021. She is a graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool
